🌍 A-23A Iceberg – Nature’s Warning on Climate Change

The A-23A iceberg, once the largest in the world, is now nearing the end of its journey. Breaking off from Antarctica decades ago, this giant block of ice was bigger than Karachi and remained grounded in the Weddell Sea for almost 40 years. Covering an area of 1,500 square miles and weighing about a trillion tons, it amazed scientists with its unusual longevity.

In 2020, A-23A finally started drifting north. By 2024, it reached near South Georgia Island, and in May 2025, it entered warmer waters, melting rapidly. Today, its size has shrunk to 683 square miles, with massive chunks breaking apart, posing risks for global shipping routes.

Scientists warn that the melting of A-23A is a direct signal of climate change and global warming. Billions of tons of freshwater entering the oceans could disturb marine life and accelerate sea level rise, threatening major coastal cities like Karachi, Dhaka, New York, and Miami.
